Instant calculations, with accuracy , after bird strike and loss of power, to nearest airport, are impossible for human brain.
Coming around was first choice, because of short elapsed time in the air, and that is what he did.

If Sullenberger had computer ...always on, calculating glide path to all surrounding airports at point of loss of power, accounting for prevailing wind,total weight of plane,when wheels are dropped and all variations on flap and rudder position ...computer could still land the plane short of chosen runway and in your neighbourhood...because still impossible for computer to get all the variables correct.

Sullenberger can not be criticized for his choices and remarkable skill in setting the plane down so that bothengines grabbed the water at almost the same time ..dissipating energy and so keeping body of plane mostly intact.
