"I know if you found a computer in the woods, you would assume nobody made it and put it there. It grew there by itself, a product of nature."

I heard two uneducated people arguing the other day, one a lawyer the other a social worker, that one philosopher was greater than another. The lawyer said that Plato was greater than Aristotle because he came first. The social worker argued equally stupidly on behalf of Aristotle.

I thought to myself that Socrates must be a greater philosopher than either because he came first but someone still had to come before him. It must trace back to someone falling out of a tree and then I thought Steve must be the greatest philosopher.

"The Declaration of Independence dogmatically bases all rights on the fact that God created all men equal; and it is right; for if they were not created equal, they were certainly evolved unequal. There is no basis for democracy except in a dogma about the divine origin of man." - G.K. Chesterton - Chapter 19, What I Saw In America, 1922
