2/6/09 update
Optimism that a stimulus plan would soon be approved provided investors with a stimulus to buy stocks, getting February off to a nice start. At Friday's close, the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 1.28% CYTD, or "Contest Year To Date" (vs. down -6.06% CYTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Biotech Index had a good week as well, closing up 7.75% CYTD (vs. up 2.06% CYTD a week ago). And the Contest median followed the trend, closing up 8.02% CYTD (vs. up .58% CYTD a week ago).
Three portfolios were running neck and neck in the battle for first place: ENZYME up 26.48% CYTD, GHMM up 26.12% CYTD and SCARAM up 25.33% CYTD.
At Friday's close, 26 of the 32 Contest portfolios were in the black and 16 of the 32 beat the NBI.
