The revelation about one center treating her makes the treatment even harder to understand," said Arthur Caplan, bioethics chairman at the University of Pennsylvania. "They went ahead when she had six kids, knowing that she was a single mom ... and put embryos into her anyway."

In CA, I think the fertility clinics must provide their services to anyone who asks, and the docs can't prevent treatment based on moral considerations of any kind. Several months ago I posted about a case in CA in which fertility services were denied to a lesbian woman. The two docs in question lost....at the CA supreme court level, I think. In fact, it was suggested to them by one of the judges that they should consider whether another profession was more suitable for them.

I agree that this case is different from the octuplet situation, but I have a feeling that the same legal standards would apply in both cases.
