Koan,

While I can agree that greed has pushed all sorts of executive compensation to ridiculous levels, I also think we need to recognize that current CEO's, etc have often inherited the messes that prior CEO's etc created over perhaps as much as the last half century.

To me, it's during that period that the greed of our executive has increased dramatically with each succeeding decade. While the income labor earns was held to roughly cost of living, executive compensation was permitted to grow exponentially creating multiple billionaires, and probably too many with hundreds of millions to count. Sadly most of the money was made exporting product manufacture to other places and reducing the labor force of most of the companies that built most of their fortune here.
