This whole problem started with the myth Reagan perpetrated in 1980 that "government is not the answer it is the problem". That is an idiotic statement! Our democracy is our government!!!!!! For 30 years the neo con philosophy has been to replace all government programs with private programs and with as little regulation as possible. And that is what precipitated this depression. There are proper roles for government and proper roles for business with democratic oversight. E.G. Military, police fire, water, sewer, and I think roads. Toll roads are nuts as are private prisons and the 160,000 mercenaries fighting in Iraq. Student loans should always be available at reasonable costs with either strict goverment regulation to protect the student, or government should ensure and issue them. Government usually ensures things are as fair as they can be. Better than private industry! Correctional institutions should be the responsibility of society to ensure inmates are treated right. And on and on.
