"Makes a big difference..." Yes it does. We got that with Alicia in 1983. When I went to work in the morning, it was down to a depression and failing fast. By a little after noon it was back to a cat 1. By the time I got off work, it was a cat 3 and due for landfall by noon the next day. Up until then, that was the fastest I have ever seen a hurricane develop. And it was close to shore when it built up. Now, they build even faster.
