It's my understanding of Krugman's arguments, and here I'm repeating myself, that the deficit is extremely likely to grow a great deal worse if we do nothing than if we throw the kitchen sink at the economy right now

If one uses the argument that the more we spend - the less debt we incur - which is what you are saying is Krugman's thinking, then sure debt is no longer an argument. But doesn't that ring ominously similar to the republicans chant - "reduce taxes because it brings in more taxes". We are near 3 Tillion now including all TARP stuff, so to think that we are spending "nothing" is false. No one is suggesting we spend nothing....
