I was an Insurance Administrator for a few local companies, and not in the insurance business.

You reached a major shift in underwriting. The plans generally seem to groups people in five year bands. 55 is where men's premiums start meeting women's premiums. It gets closer at 60. The reason is that more expensive maladies and tests seem to get more common around that age.
