Unfiltered town hall crowds? Sounds like baloney to me. Some things I found in various comments:
You know you cannot just “enter” an Obama town hall meeting. They give out tickets in advance. Who gets the tickets? People who stand in line and wait. Who tells people when and where Obama will appear next? Certainly not the Secret Service who has to protect this man. Not the MSM, who are too busy telling us how great he is without asking any critical questions.
Sooooo… how does a 61 year-old homeless woman who’s living in a pickup truck with her son JUST HAPPEN to get a ticket so she can VERY PUBLICALLY ask Prez. Obama for a HOUSE? Anyone? Who pushes her up on stage? She’s right at the front of the crowd. Did she just happen to get a seat there?
Now, within moments of this happening, it’s trumpeted all over the news. AND, surprise, surprise, the wife of State Representative Nick Thompson, Chene Thompson JUST HAPPENS to have a spare house worth $150,000 lying around, so she GIVES it to this unemployed, homeless, living-in-a-truck woman. They’ve been homeless for “more than a year”, which coincidentally, predates the current housing and banking crisis by quite a while. How did they learn about the “Obama Town Hall and Tent Revival”? Were homeless people simply rounded up? Did someone pre-canvas the area in search of “great, tear-jerking stories”? Of all the people in the audience, SHE’S one of the ones Obama chooses to ask a question? ....
Well I think it is safe to say that we know where most of those 1500 tickets that people stood in line for all night went. For those of you unaware, people stood in line all night and were only issued two tickets. A lady who was number 43 in line was not half way to the ticket window then the tickets were gone...do the math. I was absolutely shocked by the number of state reps in attendance, many of which have nothing to with that locality. .... huffingtonpost.com
About 200 wait in line for Fort Myers town hall tickets
Town hall ticket information • Tickets, which are free and required for the event, will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and can be picked up at the Harborside Event Center, 1375 Monroe St., beginning at 9 a.m. Monday. • Tickets will be distributed at the box office on the west side of Harborside Event Center. The line will form there under the valet canopy. • Doors at the town hall meeting President Obama will attend Tuesday will open at 10 a.m., and the event will begin at noon. • The 1,500 tickets are limited to two per person.
A line of about 10 people formed outside Harborside Event Center by 11:30 this morning, wanting to ensure tickets to the town hall meeting President Barack Obama will be attending Tuesday.
Ray Hendrix was first in line, arriving at 9:30. He had thought about coming downtown last night, but seeing Harborside staff putting up barricades this morning on TV sprang him into action.
“I said, ‘I’m going,’” the 51-year-old Fort Myers resident said.
Hendrix brought a newspaper and a radio with him to pass the time and was encouraged when he heard Harborside staff would be setting up porta potties and a concession stand.
Hendrix was excited; this will be his first time to see Obama in person.
“The man brings hope to this country,” he said. “It’s needed.” news-press.com
FORT MYERS - Hundreds of people waiting for tickets to Tuesday's town hall meeting with President Barack Obama went home empty-handed and disappointed today. Some camped out at downtown Fort Myers' Harborside Events Center as early as Sunday morning for what was announced as 1,500 free tickets. The box office opened at 9 a.m. The tickets were gone by 9:25, leaving many to question whether 1,500 were actually distributed. Some media reports quoted sources saying as few as 250 were given away. Two tickets were being sold on eBay this afternoon for $1,900. Obama plans to visit Fort Myers to promote the $820 billion economic stimulus plan. Republican Florida Gov. Charlie Crist intends to join him. The town hall meeting is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Fort Myers' unemployment rate has climbed to 10 percent, and its housing market is among the nation's worst. The first person in line was 51-year-old Roy Hendrix of Fort Myers, who had been homeless until some friends took him in. Hendrix says he would like to thank Obama for "giving us hope that he can help turn this economy around." www2.tbo.com
There's a time conflict between the two stories above, though both agree Roy Hendrix was the first guy in line. Both also seem to indicate only a few hundred or so of the 1500 tickets were given away to the public.
