DB: The only black helicopter realities I have seen lately have come from the private sector - Madoff, other scams, top-rated financial companies imploding in a matter of days, and a general destruction of a staggering amount of wealth.

To think that the US government has the manpower and the means to become a crazed totalitarian regime breaking into our homes, falls way outside the bounds of reason, IMHO.

V: DB, I think you are misunderstanding what I am saying here--or have said.

My point is that in dire economic circumstances all governments will seek to intervene in their economies. Agreed?

Then, if so, we are just talking about the matter of the degree of intervention.

The gold confiscation act is just an example of our government intervening in this area in the past during a financial crisis.

I AM NOT ADVOCATING that one put ALL of one's assets in gold or foreign offshore bank accounts (out of the reach of the US Governement) or move to Northern California and homestead with Wharf Rat (G) (maybe not a bad idea after all), but I do believe that one has to make a calculation on the chances of financial crisis happening and to the extent that one asseses the probablity of that--then one has to plan accordingly as much as one can with the resources they have available. (Purchase a shotgun?--may want to put that on the list)

The degree of the planning undertaken and action will vary by individuals depending on their astutness, assets, resources, and cultural up bringing.

There--you see--I'm only half crazy! (G)
