For the past few month my wife has been having stomach troubles and two weeks ago she finally went for a checkup with her doctor. I made sure she was to be tested for h. pylori and, sure enough, she had the bacterium (they used a lab instead of the Quidel test). So now she is taking the antibiotics to get rid of the pest.

In speaking with her doctor last night she confirmed that they do not know how we get the little bug or how it is transmitted; and there is no assurance that once my wife kills off the h. pylori in her system that she won't get it again. But what I found most interesting, with regard to Quidel, is that after someone has tested positive for h. pylori, if that person needs to be tested again for h. pylori, you cannot do a blood test (such as Quidel's) because once you have the bacteruim the body produces antibodies and they will stay in your blood forever, and a blood test for h. pylori will therefore always be positive. In other words, Quidel's test is valid only for the first test. If another test needs to be done it must be a breath test or some other kind of lab test, which will cost more money.

My question is, is this perhaps not quite the high volume test and money maker for us we have been hopeing it will be? True, there are an awful lot of people who could benefit from the test but is Quidel's revenue from the test limited to once per patient? Any other comments?
