Sure, religious people have committed atrocities and still do, though first they have to convince themselves they're doing it in God's cause. For someone not encumbered with a God at all there isn't a need for a rationale. What is killing off millions of humans if humans are just like baboons?

Does that affect people's attitudes toward abortion?

Take the million or so kids which die in the third world, many in Africa, yearly from malaria. Is it easier for liberal greens to insist DDT should be banned if they believe the people dying are members of a lower race as Darwin said? Now a liberal would never SAY that out loud, but do a lot of them believe it secretly?
