Why is Darwin so important to so many?
Darwin showed how to extend the scientific method to areas in which direct experiments cannot be performed. This is an important paradigm. It has been especially useful in astronomy where the same problem applied. The more distant light is also older, and this is similar to gaining information from fossils. In both cases a process that cannot be directly be recreated is inferred from the evidence left from earlier times.
