He definitely resigned because of the White House wanting to move the director of the Census Bureau more under their control. I can see why the Republicans are deathly afraid of this and it may not have been the proper time for the president to make this move (if at all). The parties have been battling back and forth for years about ways to redistrict and I think this move scares the hell out of Republicans. Unfortunately, now it's just going to galvanize them. The Dems are only mirroring what the GOP did in 2000. Is it right? Of course not but why bother to fight fair with people who call themselves a Taliban insurgency.
