Studying nature and the universe is probably the most genuinely religious thing a person can do.

I often wonder why religious people don't just say, God is the Big Bang, he set the universe in motion, in such a way that it would inevitably lead to us. To study ourselves, the universe, the Big Bang, nature, would be to study God.

That was basically the view of those of our Founding Fathers who were Diests: God created the universe but has had nothing to do with it since then.

But most religious people seem to want a God who is involved on a day to day basis, someone who can and will interfere on our behaves, someone who will listen to our pleas and alter the course of events accordingly.

Seems absurd and vain to me, but it is what it is...
