This recession is fundamentally different. It's cause is in the financial system this time. And it's serious. The Fed's innovative and drastic measures should attest to that. Yea, I watch the news. I also read books and surf the net. But, like any recession, you pretty much fight them the same way: stimulus and spending.

I hope we begin to pull out of the nose dive by mid year, but that may be asking for too much. Last I looked, there is a lot of deleveraging going on and more to go. Obama's spending package will take some time to have a substantial impact. The problems are just too deep for a short recession, in my view. We may stabilize by later in 2009 and start slow growth in 2010. Yet, this could end up being the most significant recession since the 1930s.
