Well your talking lets say on average 1 gram per ton. Of course this can be only done in the land of local cheap wages. But there is already one strike in SA now, How long before more of the locals want higher wages for a larger piece of the action. They live there once all the gold is gone whats going to be left nothing.

Calculate how much diesel fuel its going to cost to just move 1 ton of dirt over the edge of the mountain. I think you burn more fuel, along with the capital cost and wages. Thats only the beginning. 1 gpt doesn't give alot of leeway if problems crop up.
