How about it's simply that AMAT is trading at 24X 10/97 earnings, and earnings visibility into next year just evaporated? You wrote: But maybe I'm missing something, and some not-widely-known info will reveal that AMAT is truly in serious strategic trouble, with medium and long term profits in some doubt?
