Back in 2000, I read that Ralph Nader has his personal investments with a lot of the same corporate America companies that he has made a career of criticizing. When I read that, I lost a lot of respect for him, despite all his accomplishments. Perhaps back in the 1960s and 1970s there were few socially conscious investment options, but that changed in the 1980s, and by 2000 there was no excuse for a social crusader like Nader not to be invested in socially conscious companies and funds (which have done quite well over the years since they were established).

I have similiar reservations about Michael Moore. Yeah, he makes some good documentaries documenting the wrong doing in American society and advocating a new social/economic model. But then he buys a $2 Million house on Lake Michigan and chooses to live on the Upper East Side in New York City amongst the wealthy elites. It seems like he's milking the market for socially stinging documentaries, then using the proceeds to live the good life with the people he criticizes, instead of setting an example of how things should be done in this county. There are plenty of working class and middle class neighborhoods in New York City where Michael Moore could live and be a part of building a good community from the bottom up like he advocates in his films, instead of living amongst the snobs who got rich off the system he supposedly wants to change.

When it comes down to it, most people are interested in self promotion.
