I'm not going to tell Alghieri to move out of his home and into a smaller one. He probably has a lower mortgage payment than I do. Hence if I lived where he lived, I'd probably choose a 5,000 ft2 house as well.

But I also have certain advantages. First of all, I live in The OC, which is a lot of fun in itself. Second, I don't have to spend as much on utilities or on maintenance because of the smaller size. Third, my house is likely more modern and more energy-efficient. Even during the summer, I'm amazed at how cool my house remains. I don't know what it is except perhaps modern materials and construction.

And finally, if Obama comes out and tells people to move into smaller homes, I'll just tell Obama to go after guys like you and Alghieri first. After all, MY "carbon footprint" is already smaller than that of the average American ... ;-)
