It's a general problem with societal priorities, but ultimately, I believe society chose to focus on careers and materialism over raising families. That in turn helped inflate the price of real estate, which then makes dual-income families a requirement, etc. But hey, I should be talking. No children yet, still living the DINK lifestyle ...
