This is value investing at it's finest.
Let me draw an analogy if I may.
Back in the in the early 2000's as gold was kicking off I saw an interview with Jim Rogers.
Being a bit of a contrarian and value investor myself I was delighted to hear him talk about commodities and how undervalued they were.
He said, alluding to basically what you said Robert...

"That I wait until I see money sitting over in a corner and then I walk over and pick it up."

It's that simple really.
Now is the time to break out Graham and Dodd and you will find all sorts of value out there. Couple that with some basic technical analysis and viola, you are the next DW.

One thing though, instant gratification this is not.
But at extremes, opportunity is like a window that is closing fast. You need to fight the prevailing mentality.
I remember writing Barron's a letter 1 year after the crash. Right around there. Someone had written that they felt the put call ratio had stopped working.
I wrote a reply and they led with my letter to the editor on the Editorial page.
Basically, I said that as someone who follows sentiment I would like nothing more than for him to think that the put-call ratio had stopped working. I do think it has a lot of it's predictive ability on later years.

Good post Robert!
