John, he just doesn't put things together well. He might be the smartest kid on the block, but he lacks common sense - and his arguments are just wrong.

You're obviously welcome to your opinions about Krugman. But you need to remember arguing economics with Krugman, and particularly depression era into WWII and its aftermath, one needs to read even more carefully. He's done a bit work there recently. And he's no one's dummy.

You might disagree with a premise that leads in an opposite direction. But his argument, at least at this general level we are talking, is that Roosevelt was pumping the economy just fine and its was responding until 37/38 when Roosevelt concluded it was time to balance the budget. Bang, down went the economy.

WWII stopped that with full employment for the war effort.
