Kyodo via Individual Inc. : FUKUOKA, Oct. 23 (Kyodo) _ Nippon Television Network
Corp. (NTV) plans to adopt a combination of high-definition and ordinary television
formats for digital broadcasting via broadcasting satellite (BS), a senior managing
director of the Tokyo-based TV network said Thursday.

NTV will put the plan into practice when BS-based digital broadcasting gets fully under
way in 2000, Seiji Urushido said during a panel discussion by commercial broadcasters
held in the city of Fukuoka in Japan's southern main island of Kyushu.

The plan envisages airing high-definition TV programs during set hours in a day and
ordinary programs through three channels for the rest of the day, Urushido said.

One of the three channels is expected to specialize in news reports.

BS-based digital broadcasting can create one high-definition TV channel and three
ordinary TV channels on the same frequency.
