Yes. While you might disagree, there's a relatively high hurdle to get into teaching (public school).

I don't have time to get into a big discussion with you, nor is it on-topic, but I think that teachers should be paid well. FYI, a teacher doesn't work just 8a-3p nor just 9 months a year. However, I also think that teachers should not have tenure. There needs to be a way to determine who is a low-performing teacher and bounce him out. Additionally, I will agree that the big pensions cause teachers who have burned out a long time ago to hang around to get max salary. But, prison guards, cops, firemen have even sweeter deals where they work a lot of overtime in the last five years to double their pensions and retire after 20 years of service. Where's your griping about that situation?
