newt and cheney are apples and oranges. Newt had a million ideas and some were very good. I would have preferred him to bush in 2000 but the repubs made this huge mistake by annointing King George 2. He has no chance for a comeback as you point out because he has been demonized, not to mention the BJ in the diner. I like Newt and i take his ideas seriously, though i dont always agree.
