Steve, I am struggling to understand your argument.

To try and blame the housing mess on Carter is a canard. Who predicted the edge of depression we are now on the edge of? The same people who predicted the great depression of 29. It was the increase in credit by artificially cheap monetary policy that led us into the abyss. The blame belongs to the sycophant Greenspan who sent us on a party for which we now are facing the music. That mistake was encouraged by Bush and made worse by Bush when he invaded Iraq (while taking his eye off the ball in Afghanistan). That invasion created the huge deficits that went from what 5 trillion to 10 trillion. That debt belongs to the republicans and any attempt to blame others will be met with the rath of voters who know better. The economic downturn that Obama is trying to find a way out belongs to Bush and republicans with no backbone. Obama deserves our support to find a solution and YES, he will make mistakes.

There is no fix for housing until people are put back to work. That is what the stimulus plan is all about. I don't like it much - but we have little choice - because of the screw ups of the last administration. With job losses increasing exponentially, we better come up with something to put people to work or our Country is down the toilet. Soooo, lets get something for all this money spent; lets do roads and bridges and tunnels and alternate energy sources and medical technology and build schools. I hate the welfare to appease the far left just as I hate the tax cuts meant to appease the far right. But Obama is a pragmatist. For America's sake he deserves a shot at this. He gets my support.
