I thought of Apollo the idol that was derived from a mathematical synthesis of facts. Perfect for a materialist like Shepard. In fact, I see no difference between the Greek Idol worshippers and modern day materialists. The study of Apollo is a study of the laws of space and objects in space in terms of geometrical and mathematical elements revealing absolute laws.
