"this damn downturn is mostly psychological anyway..." americans are in the dumps like in 1980. RR got them out of the dumps after carters disastrous (or perceived disastrous) four years. After 2 years of volker breaking inflations back and 10% plus unemployment we climbed out and got moving again. Now this downturn is different and worse, but at its center is americans loss of confidence. Now we have steady eddy as president. I think over time the steady course and the calm demeanor might do the trick. Next critical movement coming next week with Geitner. We will find out if he was a good choice or not, next time he speaks. I hope they get the banking thing right because the fear of crashing markets is bad enough but the fear of insolvent banks for the average main street dude is really scary.
