Steve, two things pop out in Obama's statement:

- He wants to cut the deficit in half, but he's starting with a deficit of $1.33 trillion. Even the deficit under Bush never went above half a trillion except in his final year in office.

- The Iraq War currently represents 10% of the deficit. Even if Obama completely pulled out tomorrow (which he won't do despite his anti-war rhetoric), it would not make much of a dent in the deficit.

- Besides, Obama is already increasing government by leaps and bounds, more so than Bush. We'll all be paying for it very soon, not just those making $250K or more.
