To be sure, some wonder if this friendly gesture reflected official sentiment in Tehran.

Right. I think Ahamdenijad deserves a lot of credit for his remarks after Obama took office.

Because he made Obama look like a rank amateur. Demanding an apology, switching immediately to the aggressor mode pushing America around as though we were powerless children to be slapped on the wrist.

Ahmedenijad is irrational but he isn't a fool. He knows absolute weakness when he sees it.

I'd wager the next thing we see is Obama announcing some kind of back-office "agreement" has been reached with Iran, which will leave Israel twisting in the wind.
