SS is not only running a surplus this year. It has been running surpluses since the 1980s and will be running a surplus until 2017. The trust fund will not be exhausted until 2042. All other government programs should run as well as Social Security. If I were a boomer (and I'm not) and they tried to cut my SS after I had been paying in for 40 years, I would really be PO'd.
