"The major problem with our Hispanic students is that they are illiterate in both their spoken language (Spanish) and English."

Yup, Spanish was my first language but I caught a lot of flack when I enrolled in a junior-level Spanish course in college, ended up dropping the class ... end result is I speak Spanish on a level with someone who was not educated past the eighth grade, no way I could practice law in Spanish.

/though fortunately I am literate in English
