You are opening a can of worms there. It is human nature for all people to believe that they are the good guys and the "other side" are the bad guys.

Does anyone REALLY think the Iranian people see themselves as the bad guys, or anyone else in the world sees themselves as the bad guys? It is ALWAYS the other side who are the bad guys, especially with the non-thinking (but perhaps highly educated/trained) masses. By "non thinking" I am referring to people who have never even taken the simple mental step of putting themselves in the other guy's position. If you haven't done this then you don't think well, even if you have a PhD.

Bottom line is very simple. The US acts in the US's best interests. Iran acts in Iran's best interest. Both sides do good and bad. Each side tries to hide their bad, brag about their good, and do the opposite about the other side's actions.

IMO the fact that you recognize that "our" side does indeed do bad things shows that you think.
