Michael,

<<Although they might be introducing "SparQ" at Comdex, I seriously doubt it. I have serious doubts that such a product exists. >>

You say you have "serious doubts that such a product exists." I also doubt that it exists -- yet.

I believe such a product may be feasible.

* SyQuest has made noise in the past about a future EZ-Flyer in the capacity range of 768MB. SyQuest has sold the EZ-Flyer 230 for under $200 -- although probably at a blow-em-out going-out-of-style loss.

* Jaz and SyJet both use two platters to achieve their capacities of 1GB and 1.5GB respectively. At the time they were designed, single platters were not capable of holding an entire gig. That has changed (As evidenced by the Jaz 2GB.) Single platter cartridges are likely significantly less costly to manufacture that dual platter cartridges.

* Didn't Iomega state some time ago that their FUTURE target price for Jaz was $200.00 for an external, with $60 cartridges?

* SyQuest has shown a penchant for losing money on everything they sell, why not yet another product.

Put it all together, and we may see something from SyQuest later next year....
