My brother in law, a cardiologist, claims that the best place by far to have open heart surgery is in the US. De Bakey pioneered that and with volume and a lot of routine the US does the best job at very reasonable prices. My sister, however, needed hip replacement and that was done in Finland, where they have many years routine in hip preservation based hip joint replacement. As for gastro intestinal surgery, Germany offers consistent high quality service levels almost independent of where you go.
