All I was talking about was AP classes. I figured anyone talking back to me would be pretty much talking about that. and of course, English "5" would be a college level class because high school is only 4 years- 5th year English, if so denoted, would be college level.

"In paragraph one of that post I opined that English 5 doesn't seem to me to appropriately be a college level course. "

So of course I figured you knew that a 5th year of high school classes would, essentially, take you in to college territory. That's just the way things are planned out. Our classes from 1st year high school to 4th year are our high school classes- anything beyond that goes beyond the high school curriculum- that's just the way it is. We have state standards for high school, and once you've covered all those, and venture on to new territory, you are at the college level. So again, I'm not sure what your opinion of English 5 is based on. You don't like the idea of calling advanced English English 5? It's the name that bothers you? You want college level Enlish taught in 4th year English? I'm sure you meant to clarify, but since you DID say you don't approve of 5th year English, and 5th year English is AP, and it is AP because it goes far beyond what we would expect of 4th year high school English, I really can't square your various pronouncements.

No doubt it's all very clear to you, but I don't think that clarity has been communicated.
