Because the latter mostly claims for having somebody helping you to do that!
That ain't just the American dream, it's just the American reality.

Helping you to relaise your dreams, helping you to develop your approach and technology may quite often require capital. So, where do you get those guys interested, where your local banks won't risk a penny on your un orthodox approaches?
