None of this is true.

Gaining proficiency is NOT the same "wherever" it's taught- because there are things we learn in high school, and then there are things that are appropriate for college. I'm sure you realize there are things we teach in elementary school, and things we teach in high school- same difference. Proficiency AT a given level is not the same at any level. And literature classes are little more than book clubs? I don't know what literature classes you've had, but they shouldn't be that, and they aren't that, unless they are for the lowest students, who simply don't have the background to be taught more critical ways to attack a text.

Your points seem divorced from reality as I experience it, which made me think you simply weren't communicating your ideas. If this is all you have "And literature classes are little more than book clubs", then there's really not much for us to discuss, because we are apparently living on different planets.
