Will be important to see what is happening in 2 to 3 years (with the growth rate for our economy, and whatever the trend is then for the federal deficit: up or down).

If the economy is not back to sustainable GROWTH, and the federal deficits are not declining (as a percentage of GNP) at a goodly clip by then... it will be necessary to adjust course.

(IMO, that was the BIG MISTAKE Bush made: when things did not work out as he hoped, he refused to alter course or make any fundamental adjustments.)

ALSO: This would be a Hell of a *good time* to DEMAND that Congress vote out a Balanced Budget Amendment proposal for incorporation into our Constitution!

If they passed it today (and why the Hell couldn't they pass it at least THIS YEAR? I see no reason not to!) then it would still take a couple of years for enough States to ratify so it could take effect.

By that time (couple of years) hopefully THIS MASSIVE RECESSION will be past --- and there will be absolutely no reason left not to instruct government to run balanced budgets!
