You are confused.

No one is putting illiterate Spanish speakers in AP Spanish. What the article quoted someone as saying (and what I took issue with) was, that putting fluent Spanish speakers in AP Spanish was "redundant"- which is just stupid. You could say putting fluent English speakers in AP English is redundant- that's stupid too.

What I said was that Spanish speakers start out fluent verbally, but illiterate in terms of reading and writing. You had some odd problem with AP SPanish or Spanish 5. I still have no idea what that problem was, and you claimed if you could speak it you could learn it from a dictionary (happy to quote that part of your post for you again if you like. Which you clearly do not.)

Now where you got the idea I, or anyone, would throw illiterate kids in to Spanish AP is beyond me. They start in Spanish 1 like anyone else- but they are more likely to GET to Spanish AP because they have a verbal background in Spanish, and with good teachers they might progress rapidly.

If you thought we were talking about throwing illiterates straight in to AP Spanish I never said that, the article never said that, and I've no idea where you got that idea.

This is a new one on me. I thought we were talking about why you had a problem with English 5 and Spanish 5 being college classes- a problem I still do not understand (and believe me, I don't want to any more. Let's just let that problem go.)
