If I remember corectly it was the banks complaining of the unfair advantage Fannie and Freddie had that created the bank leverage. Instead of clamping down on Fannie and Freddie they let the banks leverage up.

What I can't figure is they all still point the finger at housing, even Buffet, not the underlying credit bubble.

The blame is Reagan since he had Greenspan appointed and it was Greenspan who was the clueless culprit. I admitt it when he used to give those giberish speeches I too though the double speak was intelligent dodging. Now I see it was just unintelligent gibberish.
