Well that's just it. They are very good at being whores. But most of them don't have many other talents. I would like to be them degreed in the field they end up regulating. If you are on the banking committee, you ought to have a degree in finance, or accounting. I don't care if you were a nifty football player, or on the Love Boat, or made a crack performance in front of congress because you laundered money to fund an illicit government program- you ought to be educated in your committee work.

Obviously the people who govern us can't be educated in everything, life is too complex now for any one person to know everything. But I'm 100% for people being educated in their committee subject. Government is one of the few places where education doesn't matter much right now- and any idiot can be on the banking committee, ag committee, armed services, science and tech, etc.

Rule by uneducated idiot is just not working. I'd like to try something else. I know some folks love to celebrate the virtues of the ignorant and uneducated, but I just don't think it's a good idea. Since we have never actually tried using people educated in their subjects on congressional committees, I like to think it might work.

As you say, I wouldn't go to a brain surgeon who hadn't studied brain surgery...
