The New York Jets [team stats] shored up their shaky secondary by acquiring two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Lito Sheppard from the Philadelphia Eagles for undisclosed draft picks.

Sheppard, who spent his first seven NFL seasons with the Eagles, could immediately start in a Jets secondary that ranked 29th against the pass last season.

Neither the Jets nor the Eagles announced terms of the deal, but Philadelphia reportedly will receive a fifth-round pick in April’s draft and a conditional pick in next year’s draft.

The deal was completed after New York re-signed guard Brandon Moore to a four-year, $16 million deal earlier in the day.

Dawkins to Denver

The Broncos signed seven-time Pro Bowl safety Brian Dawkins, who spent his entire 13-year career with the Eagles.

Although Dawkins turns 36 next season and is clearly on the downside of his career, he brings a hard-hitting style and leadership qualities coveted by new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels.

The Broncos also signed free agent safety Renaldo Hill from the Dolphins, former Colts special teams standout Darrell Reid to a three-year, $6.8 million contract.

Brotherly love

The Eagles bolstered their offensive line by signing Stacy Andrews to a six-year contract. Andrews spent his first five seasons with Cincinnati and is the older brother of Eagles right guard Shawn Andrews, a former All-Pro coming off a year battling depression and injury.

The 6-foot-7, 342-pound Stacy Andrews is a versatile lineman who can play tackle or guard. He passed a physical despite having surgery in January to repair two torn ligaments in his right knee, and possibly could be ready for the start of training camp.
