It's a huge part of the problem. I don't think we can have a significant recovery until the debt is decreased, probably cut in half. And the only way to do that is for people to save, not spend, which guarantees a very long recession or worse.

In many ways blaming the banks is a cop out. Yes they were the enablers, yes they didn't follow rational standards.... but frankly it was 'the people' who wanted to outspend their incomes that led to the problem.

I really don't see an easy way out of this... I think it's going to be very bad for many years.
