Great idea. Tax the hell out of it so it stays underground and you've gained nothing.

For one thing, this would provide a great source of new tax revenue.

If drug use is ever decriminalized the above will be EXACTLY the reason they do it. Same reason state governments took over the numbers racket. Same reason they would take over prostitution if the politicians thought they could get away with it.
