| Re this social breakdown stuff, gee, I think we experienced that in Houston a few mos ago when the hurricane came through. 2 wks w/o power, trees down blocking the streets - even our driveway, limited gas availability, sometimes people would line up at a station and turn off their cars and wait on a rumor gas might be coming. The Kroger nearby let people in in groups to wander around the dark store picking up non-refrigerated stuff like crackers, canned goods, etc. No big problems overall though. Gee, I can't believe I can't even remember the storms name now ... seems like longer ago. Society didn't break down. No crime wave at all. No real danger. We all slept downstairs at night with the windows and doors open. Skeeters were our biggest hazard. People got out the next day, cut up the trees, dragged them to the side, started fixing things up, eventually things got back to normal. If I had to do it over again, I'd have stocked up some more on things, like more batteries, bottled water, poptarts, and Off! but other than that it was not that terrible. |
