Hello, Mephisto and everyone!!! Yes, I am absolutely okay, and no flu, either. I sort of looked around me at the beginning of the week and saw the dust bunnies mating furiously under every bed and table, and the garden with its plants all droopy, feeling neglected and not at all ready to go into winter, and the bills and magazines and investment information stacking up everywhere the dust bunnies were not going at it, and decided I'd better do a little reality check.
So now I have bought 213 bulbs for the garden, and twelve varieties of plants for cut flowers in the spring. I have not quite gotten to the stacks of reading material, but I washed down all the kitchen cupboards!!! I seem to have forgotten how to cook, so after a few feeble attempts my family is quite happy with healthy take-out food and I am rereading my cookbooks to find better recipes. The Halloween decorations are up, and I have scavenged quite a bit of firewood from our neighborhood, as trees are being examined for disease because of the upcoming El Nino, and some are being marked for chopping down. In any event, we now have enough wood to last the winter, I hope, and all of it was free.
I have not been able to go online at all the last few days because we were trying to sell the pretty but not very practical Mercedes. It was a beautiful car, but seemed to like being with our mechanic, Dieter, better than residing in our driveway. Its favorite hang-out was the foreign car repair garage, where it sprawled appealingly with its hood up, waiting for Dieter to rev its engine and massage all its bells and whistles. While we were trying to sell it, we needed the phone line clear for potential sellsers, and since it does not reliably ring through when I am online, I did other things instead. Now the car is sold, and I think we have bought another Volvo. Hopefully everything will work out okay, and our Mercedes will like its new home better, with an interior designer who came to the house wearing a straw hat and a sundress, dressed for tea with the Queen or something. Perhaps we just did not have enough style for such a wonderful car!!!!
I have heard similar stories over and over, about Diana. I think when famous people are young we take them for granted. Diana was no angel!!! It was one of the things I liked about her, her rebelliousness and mischief making, but others saw that as a negative, and did not focus on how she brought people together, and accepted people of color, and people with diseases.
The conspiracy theories will not die!!! There are more and more sites about them on the net, and more and more theories as well. The one I found intriguing was that Dodie had cheated some people in Hollywood to whom he owed money, and that he was the target. This would not be that surprising, as not paying his bills seemed to be sort of a game with him. What I found most interesting in my reading, however, is the theory that conspiracies engage us because we feel out of control when things like this happen suddenly and unexpectedly, and we cannot handle the fragility of life, and so conspiracy theories make us feel like the universe is ordered and non-chaotic again.
