Obama isn't leveling the playing field, Bush didn't either. No modern president, and perhaps no president ever, has.
They all tilt the playing fields in all different ways, Obama more than most.
A level, or even "more level" playing field is not defined by identical or even more similar results. In fact a more level playing field can result in more inequality, if you tilt things less for those on the bottom then they where before.
Another point is the more of the economy the government controls, even in an attempt to tilt things to benefit those on the bottom, the more likely it is to tilt more and more to specific people, companies, or groups, at the top who have political influence. And the more likely it is to reduce overall production (to lower than it otherwise would have been, if not necessarily lower than it was before), with all the distortions and inefficiencies it creates. |
